Zdena Pethers has taught mathematics for over 30 years, with a special interest in gifted education. For her last 8 years with the NSW Department of Education, she worked as a P-12 Mathematics and Numeracy Consultant and Educational Services Curriculum Advisor, and also with GERRIC (Gifted Education Research and Resource Centre, UNSW) and Gifted & Talented Secondary Teachers Association (GATSTA), supporting teachers in gifted and talented education. Now retired from full time employment, Zdena works with GERRIC and GATSTA, and assists schools with mathematics, numeracy, and strategies to engage, inspire and advance their gifted and talented students.

This interactive session will give participants opportunities to reflect on their own school’s context, while focusing on the needs of gifted and talented students and how to cater for those needs within the classroom and a whole-school setting in a practical and manageable way. The session will include fun activities aimed to inspire teachers and educational leaders to try strategies that are meaningful and enjoyable for both teachers and gifted students, while catering for the needs of all students in the educational setting of their school.
